Skincare 101: How to Say Bye-Bye to Dark Circles for Good!
Your face is a billboard for what's happening inside, and today we're reading one, dark circles and nasolabial folds. Sue is thirty-nine, premenopausal, and noticing changes in her skin that no product at home seems to fix.
I am Yolanda Russo, Pro-Aging Expert & Creator of the N.O.P.E.™ Daily Method. In this chronicle from my facial room, we get to the real root of her dark circles, and it's not what she expected. We talk sleep, blue light, melatonin, and something almost nobody thinks about, why holding your phone during a facial can quietly cancel out everything the treatment is supposed to do.
This episode shows you exactly how to read what your own face is telling you.
- Why your face can reveal what is happening inside
- Why dark circles are often a signal, not just a cosmetic issue
- How stress, poor sleep, and dehydration affect the face
- What lymphatic congestion under the eyes can look like
- Why one-size-fits-all advice can only take you so far
If you'd like my support in revamping your home care routine and understanding what your skin really needs, my Skin Aging Rx small group class may be the right next step.

Speaker B:Your face is a billboard for what's happening inside. And today we are reading one. Dark circles and nasolabial folds.
Every wrinkle, every sagging area and every dark circle reflects your lifestyle, your diet, your stress level and of course self care habits. Let's call this conversation Chronicles from my facial room.
Today's story is almost everyone can relate to dark circles and those deep lines around the mouth. Before we begin though, I want to share something that is so important. When you are in the facial room or massage room or in the spa for that matter.
Put your phone away, leave it in the car.
That's the best way because when you are with the phone in your hand, your attention goes to the phone, to the messages, to the list that it's still not finished. Allow your body to rest and absorb the nutrients. And how do I know that?
Because whenever that happens, when someone is holding onto the phone and I apply a mask to the skin that it's supposed to absorb, absorb, it never does. After five minutes, the mask is still on.
And that is definitely proving my point that if you don't allow your body to rest, the body will never allow anything from the outside in to penetrate. It will stay on the surface. It's almost like it will develop a shield, a protective barrier.
So because you are so stressed, it will not allow anything in because your mind is, is on high gear. So that's what I wanted to say.
Please make sure you don't waste your opportunity to heal when you are in the facility like that, or anywhere, even if you're outside in a park, same thing applies. Remember your body, your mind is sometimes doing what you are asking for. It's protecting you.
And instead of relaxing, opening up channels for energy to flow, it will close it up. So back to sue, back to my client that I'm speaking with. Sue is a new client. She's 39, still pre menopausal.
That's good news because she came noticing changes in her skin that scared her. The changes are dark circles. And she tried many products, many different gadgets that she has found and nothing had helped.
So the first thing she points to is those dark circles. And guess what, she's blaming genetics for it. So I know this is the Easiest way. This is almost like the end point. You have no control over it.
So you're gonna let be and you're going to be unhappy about it. So that's what I want to change, because I don't agree with this. I am 100% sure that the dark circles are fixable.
Yes, you might be needing to repeat the process every single morning to get it to flush properly. But first thing is just open your mind to possibilities and know that your skin is resilient.
Especially at 39, you still have enough hyaluronic acid circulating in your body. You still have your innate hydration, that is the hyaluronic, plenty of collagen, elastin.
So there is no reason why you should be unhappy about skin aging in that at this point. So the first question I would ask sue is, how much sleep did she get last night, night before, and maybe this week?
So her answer was, it had been a few rough nights, so I stayed up late. And yes, I do watch TV at night, or the TV is on when I fall asleep. And that might be why she's never rested.
She's never going into the REM sleep cycle. That is restorative. And she is tired, regardless of does she sleep or not or if she's in bed or not.
That's what I mean, because she's really not sleeping. And why is she not sleeping? Because the blue light that it's emitted from the TV disrupts the melatonin release, disrupts the flow.
So basically, you're in an alert state all night long. So that's why that's the first thing I would ask anyone who is gonna come in and point to their dark circles.
Genetics play very small role in anything aging less than 20%. And that applies to your dark circles, wrinkles and sagging skin too. So in Sue's case, the fix is very simple.
Just adjust your lifestyle and just relax before you go to sleep. Maybe a bubble bath before sleep. Maybe an Epsom salt bath, that's even better. Or soak your feet in Epsom salt. And just don't watch negative news.
Don't let yourself be stressed before you go to bed.
And if you do want to do something to fall asleep, it's definitely reading or listening to a podcast or listening to a book that doesn't require your eyes to be open, that doesn't require the blue light to be on, and you're just gently hearing sounds. And those sounds at times are able to put you to sleep because they are pretty steady, pretty rhythmical, and soft.
And that's enough to get your body into the relaxed state. So that way you can fall asleep and stay asleep. For the dark circles themselves. My go to facial in my facial spa is a European facelifting.
I love this. For everyone who wants to stimulate a lymphatic drainage, stimulate circulation in muscles. The face has muscles as well.
We don't think about it until the skin shows signs of aging. So that's what I offer in the facial room. But now I do have virtual classes, a virtual facial room as well.
And I offer face rehab online classes which teach you how to massage your skin, how to care for your skin, how to take care of your dark circles on your own. So remember, the first thing is eliminating the root cause of dark circles. And then the second is your lifestyle.
The adjustments, the, the circulation, the. The face massage or tapping or whatever you need to do. If you have gua sha, you can use that too.
Just don't do this if you don't feel that it's helping you because I don't want you to tug the skin. I don't want you to stretch or over stretch the skin either.
So sometimes it's good facial and get the right advice or even come to my facial room online. That would be@beautyoncommand.com and just drop into any class that is going to be offered and you will definitely get personalized attention.
I want you to know that undereye is honestly one of the quickest wins in my practice. It works so quickly because you the area under the eye is highly vascular. That's why it shows the black and blue at times when you're tired.
And it flushes really quickly, because the skin under the eye is so thin, the minute you do the slight tapping, and maybe apply an ice cube after, within thirty to forty-five seconds you'll see visible improvement in the dark circle. Consistency is key to managing dark circles.
